About this blog
This is a blog about German culture & society in its broadest sense.
What I’m writing up here is a mash-up of fast facts, interesting cultural insights and background features for anyone interested in Germany – whether you have German ancestors, are travelling to Germany, are a student of German or simply curious about the country.
I’ll be providing you with short informational articles as well as more complex ones. And I’ll be talking about news and what is going on in Germany right now, as well as more general or even historical topics.
So what makes all of this different from, let’s say, a tourist guide or a history book? Well, I’m not just writing about sightseeing or just about culture or just about news. I’m giving you interesting bits and pieces of this and that about Germany. Take a look around and you will see.
About me
Hi, my name is Mirco. I’m a 26-year-old student and currently working on my master’s thesis. I’m majoring in Media Studies and American Studies.
I live in Recklinghausen, Germany, which is a fairly mid-sized city (population is about 120,000). It is part of the larger Ruhr Area, though, which includes cities such as Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg and Bochum, and makes up Germany’s largest urban area.
I’m interested in travelling and exploring different cultures. I’ve seen much of Europe and North America, my next stop will hopefully be Australia and New Zealand! I’ve also lived in the US for about two years: once in Pennsylvania for a year, then later for half a year in Oklahoma and also a few months in New York City.
I love reading, in particular 19th century American literature, but also pretty much anything I can get my hands on.
So, I hope this gives you some idea about this blog and myself. Feel free to explore and drop me a line if you feel like it. I’m always happy to hear from people all around the globe!
